Looking to improve your poker game?

Author: Simon Dexter

If you are looking here for all the answers then look again. There is only one real way to improve your game and that is experience - that means getting on the tables and learning both from your mistakes and your successes.

However, there is no harm in reviewing some of the essentials, which should improve any poker player’s success and enjoyment of the game. Check out these three quick tips.

1) Position

Check on the Internet and find out about Annette_15! Not heard of her? Well, it’s time you did. The teenage sensation played a 400-player multi-table-tournament and won without looking at her cards! Well, that’s not strictly true, she peeked just once when her opponent had gone all-in. She did, however, prove the importance of position in the game of

. Her technique involves bullying players off their blinds and slowly building up her stack. Have a look on Youtube and you will find a video of her performing this blind success. It is an example to anyone of how to play strong poker from late position.

2) Reading

Sometimes it is tempting to get on the tables and play some poker but there comes a time in every poker player’s career (or stage of a hobby) when they should do some serious poker reading. Check out the following and give them a serious read when you get the chance - on the train, the bus, the toilet!

3) Concentration

It’s easy sometimes - especially when playing a tight game - to lose a little bit of interest and perhaps fire up another window and check e-mails, Facebook or Youtube. It really is a cardinal sin to do this - the need to concentrate on how the game is going is imperative. See how other players are performing. See who is loose and who is aggressive. Remember it’s easier to spot the aggressive players than the tight ones. And, as in life, it’s the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
