Online sites will soon be one of the last refuses of the Texas Hold ‘Em enthusiast after the newly formed Gambling Commission set out its new policy of clamping down on all illegal poker clubs. The new initiative comes in the wake of the recent court case involving the Gutshot Club in London where the premises was found guilty of holding illegal poker games.
It is the intention of the Commission to adopt a strong policy of ensuring no more of these clubs carry on allowing money poker games to take place, with their main aim being the protection of the public.
Now it may appear harsh to many responsible poker players who feel they are being denied the right to carry on their leisure pursuit in a comfortable environment and it is not these type of people that the Commission seeks to sanction.
The main thrust appears, quite rightly, to be to protect the public from some of the more unscrupulous goings on at these illegal dens. It is a sad fact that where there is money involved there comes with it a criminal element and it is from this element that needs protecting.
“Commercial poker in unregulated premises creates a range of risks and dangers, especially when substantial sums of money are invited or involved,” said Phil Brear, from the Commission.
“Following the guilty verdict in the Gutshot poker case, we are warning all card rooms and premises where we believe illegal commercial poker games are taking place that appropriate action will be taken against those who organise or provide unlawful gaming.”
It stressed that Poker is a popular and engaging pastime that can be played for fun or small stakes and prizes, in limited circumstances and as a legitimate activity. However the Commission warned that the public needs to be aware that that could face prosecution if taking part in illegal gaming activity.
Although you may not be able to win a wife at Littlewoodspoker.com, there are still many Sit ‘N Go, Lightning and Multi Table tournaments to get involved in and it can all be done legally without fearing the Gambling Commission are not going to come knocking on your door!
