Book Review: Make a Million from Online Poker, by Nigel Goldman
Online poker has, in the space of less than a decade, become a global phenomenon; every year, it is estimated that players compete for a total of £20 billion in prize money, an astonishing sum which is likely to get much bigger.
As the number of online players continues to grow, so experienced poker buffs tend to have a great advantage over the greenhorns, hence they invariably pocket a disproportionate amount of the dosh.
This latest addition to the burgeoning poker library claims to “hold the key to financial success” at poker and while every new book has to try and sell itself, it’s fair to say that while it provides general advice, it’s not entirely comprehensive.
It is, for example, good if you concentrate on playing regular tournaments and cash games, although less useful should your focus be on heads up. Nonetheless, its mathematical coverage is extensive and easy to read, extremely helpful for novices.
More established online players may feel the book has less to offer, especially as it concentrates mostly on small stakes games. Much of the content is available elsewhere and there is little in the way of what might be described as advanced tactics. However, for a fiver, it’s a handy, rather than essential tome to add to that growing poker library; whether it can help you make a million playing online is another matter…
