They have most other things at the WSOP*, so why not a “Player of the Year”?
Well, of course they have this too. This year’s winner was 27-year-old Erick Lindgren who beat Justin Bonomo to win the ,000 no-limit hold ‘em event on 2nd June and who finished third in the ,000 H.O.R.S.E. event.
Lindgren, once famous for being one of the very best poker players never to have won a WSOP* bracelet, ended his unlucky run this year and cashed an incredible five times, a record which contributed to him winning the ‘Player of the Year’ accolade.
Lindgren has always had enormous belief in his poker ability. He walked away from a promising college career to become a blackjack dealer and after learning more than a few tricks of the trade became a professional poker player. He collected his first major prize in December 2002, since when he’s won more than .3 million; he is already 16th on the all-time money list – not bad for a man who could easily be at the very top for another two decades.
