As poker’s popularity grows, so demand for variations on the game increases. For instance, there has been a notable surge in the number of players trying their hand at Omaha this year, but until now, if a group of workmates or friends wanted to hold their own tournament, their options were limited.
The problem is particularly acute when friends and workmates are spread across the country because the logistics of getting everyone under one roof means it’s virtually impossible to arrange – until now.
After receiving regular requests to arrange private games from groups of mates, Littlewoods Poker has come up with “private poker tournaments” which allow friends anywhere to play – what’s more, it’s simple to set up.
The first step is to establish who you want to play – ie, get your mates together for the tournament; you can call it anything you like – from the Joe Bloggs Classic to the HR Department Open. Having got your poker-playing pals together, you simply choose the game you want to play, set the stakes you’re prepared to play for and hey presto, you’re away.
In the Littlewoods Poker tournament lobby, you’ll find the new ‘Private’ tab which gives details of all private tournaments. To start one of your own, click on the ‘create your own tournament’ button at the bottom of the private tournament listings box.
At this point, a ‘private tournament setup’ window will open. Here, you may select your game, currency, buy-in amount and a start date. Should you wish to restrict entry to a group of friends or workmates, you can also set a password.
Another pop-up window will appear which confirms that your private tournament has been created. Within a few minutes, you’ll receive a tournament invitation e-mail with the forthcoming game’s details. It only remains for you to send the invitation to your colleagues / friends and enjoy your game. The great thing is once you’ve set it up, all of the work for creating another tournament, say on a monthly basis, is already done. You could even operate a league table to keep a note of winners or have a series of knock-outs leading to a final table showdown.
