GUKPT Showdown

Author: Simon Dexter

Talking of Manchester, a big ‘well done’ is due to Finbar Tracey, one of Littlewoods Poker players who enjoyed a fine time as the GUKPT rolled into town and concluded with a win for Marc ‘Mr Cool’ Goodwin earlier this week.

Finbar beat off the challenge of nearly 300 competitors to make it into the money, winning more than two grand as a result of his 18th place finish in Manchester. A total of 309 players took part in the tournament, although that didn’t faze Finbar who was delighted with his performance.

The Littlewoods Poker regular received his GUKPT seat as a loyalty reward, “That was as well as I’ve played in a live event,” said Finbar after collecting his winnings, adding: “the whole experience was fantastic.”

For a long time, it looked as though Finbar might manage to make the final table, but eventually, it was several established regulars who locked horns. Goodwin and Nik Persaud in particular battled it out for the right to take Dave Colclough’s crown, the chip lead changing hands a number of times until Goodwin busted Zachary Ford, who finished in third place. This ensured that Mr Cool went heads up against Persaud with virtually a 2:1 chip lead. Although Persaud was appearing at his third final table of the year, Goodwin’s lead proved too much and he ultimately clinched it, winning £90,420.

Nonetheless, Persaud’s performance elevated him to first place in the GUKPT ‘player of the year’ race, an accolade which Mr Consistent looks set to win.
