Equal rights for female Poker players

Author: Simon Dexter

The move to establish a Womens Hall of Fame of Poker was probably done with the best of intentions, although the predictable backlash against the decision has kicked in early and frankly, it’s hard to argue with some of the points being made by those who are against the new tribute.
A separate Poker Hall of Fame is hardly the sort of thing that suffragettes railed against, but the introduction of this new accolade was meant to be an attempt to increase awareness of the amount of the number of female poker players flying the flag for their gender and proving that the game had no barriers.

However, with Barbara Enright, Susie Isaacs, Linda Johnson and Marsha Waggoner each becoming inaugural inductees, it begs the question that if they’re deemed good enough to be worthy of a Hall of Fame placing, surely they are good enough to be listed in the same exalted venue as the men instead of having their own separate section? Poker’s appeal is that it’s open to everyone; indeed, when it comes to online poker, there’s absolutely no way of knowing who you are up against. Whisper it, but some players actually change their online gender in order to fool opponents and to ensure they don’t appear too aggressive.

It seems a bit pointless to create an unecessary division between the men and women who excel at the sport. If you’re good enough, then you’re good enough and that’s all that matters! Readers views on the matter are welcome
