When he set off for Vegas last week with the promise of trying to achieve the first part of his unique double - a WSOP* bracelet (to go with his as-yet missing Oscar), he was given hearty cheers by all of us here at Littlewoods Towers, but we didn’t expect Michael Greco to score quite so quickly.
Yet the tension mounted earlier this week as news arrived that he had reached the final table in a $2000 Pot Limit Hold ’em event together with big hitters such as Lee Watkinson and Ben Roberts. When he then stared down at a pair of kings, he must have thought that elusive chain of gold was soon to be attached to his wrist. Indeed, were it not for a cold deck, who knows what might have happened? Each of us have our own bad beat tales, but picking up KK at a final WSOP* table only to be outdone by pocket rockets is as bad as it gets.
The result? Michael’s presence at the final table was regrettably short-lived, although he still cashed to the tune of $22,000 - not a bad start to his career as a Littlewoods Poker Pro. Several of us are already rubbing our hands at the prospect of taking him on in one of our bounty challenges when he eventually returns to the UK - hopefully with one of those bracelets
