Phil Ivey has now ended his drought on the World Poker Tour after winning the LA Poker Classic, while Van Nguyen made history by becoming the first woman to win a WPT title with victory in the Celebrity Invitational.

With the exception of the Grand Final, last year’s German Open proved to be the EPT’s most valuable event. Almost 500 players competed for a prize pool of 2.3 million euros only for Norwegian Andreas Hoivold to emerge victorious, pocketing 672,000 euros in the process. The latest EPT leg kicks off in Dortmund next Monday and while it is too late to qualify for the German extravaganza, there’s still plenty of time to make the Scandinavian Open which starts in Denmark’s capital Copenhagen on 19th February.

The Czech’s close association with beer extends to once electing a President who formerly worked in a brewery. It is also where I kicked off the new EPT season with 542 others last month as we assembled for Spain’s largest-ever poker tournament and where ultimately, I learnt a valuable poker lesson which is one that every online poker player should bear in mind the next time they play Texas Holdem online.
