Early success proves Michael’s the real deal

When he set off for Vegas last week with the promise of trying to achieve the first part of his unique double - a WSOP* bracelet (to go with his as-yet missing Oscar), he was given hearty cheers by all of us here at Littlewoods Towers, but we didn’t expect Michael Greco to score quite so quickly.

Accountants confirm poker growth

A report by accountants PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP released on Tuesday revealed that when measured in monetary terms, poker‘s popularity, together with the rest of the gaming industry, continues to grow - and then some. The report estimated that by 2012, the world’s gaming revenue will exceed 5 billion.

New rules for final table? You tell us…

This year’s split WSOP* (the final table actually takes place in November) has prompted some bright sparks to suggest the re-introduction of a long-discarded protocol last used in 1970 whereby the final table players vote to decide who they believe should be world champion.
This might sound far-fetched, but the first WSOP*, held at Binion’s Horseshoe casino, was won by Johnny Moss (who also won the following year, collecting ,000).

2,500/1 shot an each-way shout?

We were so impressed with new Littlewoods Poker pro Michael Greco’s display of confidence when it came to winning an Oscar and a world title that we were almost persuaded to follow him Stateside. Apart from it being a pretty decent gig, we reckon he has a chance of following on from Jerry Yang last year who came in from left field and scooped .25 million. Unfortunately, head office refused our request for return business class flights to Nevada.

Dozing off can be good - sometimes

With record number of entrants in several of the preliminary WSOP* tournaments, quite a few have developed into lengthy affairs with 2am and 3am finishes not unusual. On several occasions, more than one player has had to be prodded into action by a neighbour when it was their turn to play. There has even been reports of one guy falling off his chair when he fell asleep.
