Playing Under the Gun

Whenever I’m playing under the gun, my attitude changes completely. Even after quite a few years playing poker, it still makes me feel as though I’m in a heads-up confrontation with Doyle Brunson. Is this because I’m an inherently conservative player (I need a great hand to become aggressive), a wimp, or have not yet understood the correct strategy for playing and winning when under the gun?

For years, backgammon has been known as 'the poker of the Mediterranean', its exponents claiming there is a greater skill element involved in playing the game than in poker.

While it's true that backgammon has been around much longer than poker, that doesn't necessarily mean it is a game requiring more skill to play well. Comparing backgammon with poker is akin to comparing squash with football. Both are great games to play, but it is difficult to see backgammon ever overtaking poker in terms of popularity.

Can Calling Occasionally Be the Best Policy

It seems to me that the desire to be considered an aggressive player effectively robs those who should be taking a more circumspect view of poker of an important strategy. There are those of us who don’t want to enter a pot in a no-limit or cash game by having to raise every time. But calling is increasingly deemed to be for those of a hesitant nature.
I tend to raise more than I call and fold more than I raise, but am I correct in believing that occasionally, calling can be the best policy? BBA_56

The 19-year-old Norwegian collected the prize following her outstanding victory in the inaugural World Series Of Poker (WSOP) Europe event, a performance described as �phenomenal�.
