It is not certain that these terms are what 'poker' derived from though. It is more likely that the Texas holdem poker as we know today had a number of different origins and influences. These games include the Persian game of 'as nas', the Renaissance game of 'primero', and the French game 'brelan'. It is well documented that the concept of 'bluffing' derived from the English game of 'brag'.

Texas Hold em poker grew in popularity in the U.S.A through times of the 'wild west' and with Mississippi River boat casinos

adopting the game and spreading across the nation. It is likely most of the poker variations emerged around these times.

Community card poker allegedly started during WW2. What is known is that Texas holdem community card poker shot to the popularity during the seventies with the first 'world series of poker'. The arrival of online casinos such as Littlewoods and the concept of Texas Holdem as a TV spectator sport has made the online poker game what we recognise today.
